Peninsula Cycle Club

We’re proud to have been affiliated with the Peninsula Cycle Club, of the South Bay & Palos Verdes Peninsula, since 1992. Many exciting events continue each year with the club.

The club’s annual Steve Hartt Memorial San Pedro to San Diego ride is held during the month of the Tour de France. A luxury bus meets us at our starting location, so we can leave a change of clothes and other personals aboard and then we ride about 112 miles to San Diego, meet the bus to stow our bikes safely away, change our clothes, and then go out for dinner. The bus brings us back to our starting location. This event is limited to 60 riders. The fee for the event covers the bus trip, snacks, ride support and dinner (alcoholic drinks are extra). If you’d like to sign up or help at this event, contact Tony at The Bike Palace at 310-832-1966.

Peninsula Cycle Club now has three California state cycling champions and a points incentive program for USAC licensed racers of $5/point earned for the club.

The club also owns the Torrance Criterium bicycle race fundraiser, which it conducts each year with the help of many PenCC volunteers. This USCF sanctioned race, now in its second decade, has generated a lot of enthusiasm in the Torrance community, offers multiple level categories for junior men and women racers as young as ten, and is noted by riders as a very challenging and well organized event in a great location near Torrance Memorial Medical Center. This year’s Torrance Criterium was held on Sunday, April 1, 2012.

Club jerseys, vests, jackets, skinsuits, arm warmers, shorts and bibs are available for purchase. New sponsors have joined our team for 2013-2014, but it’s never too late to be a team or club event sponsor. Contact Tony if you’d like to be a team sponsor.

Weekly rides both on the road and in the dirt of various levels are offered. See the club website for details at peninsulacc.com. On the road, all club members are invited to join Tony Jabuka on Saturdays at The Bike Palace in San Pedro at 7:30AM or on Tuesdays at 9:05AM at the corner of Palos Verdes Dr. North & Palos Verdes Dr. East, in Rolling Hills Estates, or at the 7-Eleven at 25th and Moray (near 25th and Western). Both of these rides are hilly and are for intermediate to advanced riders.

On Wednesdays we have Lunch Rush at the Cabrillo Marina. This is a flat, speedy workout for those who want to do paceline, drafting and pack riding at speed. A great 50 minute workout. Intermediate level at minimum but the loop is repeated so you can shortcut and jump back in the group if you can’t keep up. This ride meets at The Bike Palace at 11:50AM on Wednesdays.

We also have a beginners road ride where we will leave no-one behind. This ride is on Saturdays at 9:00AM from The Bike Palace. Rain will cancel this ride. On the dirt, we ride every Wednesday night at 6:35PM from Del Cerro Park during Daylight Saving Time and from Malaga Cove during PST. You’ll need a very bright light all year for this two-hour ride, except during June. Our women’s ride is on Saturday morning. Find more info on local rides here.

We’ve created a club in which we all can have a lot of fun, because after all, that’s why we ride bikes!

Club dues are $25 per year. Among the benefits of membership is a 20% discount on all regularly priced apparel, parts, accessories and services at The Bike Palace, and members can buy team clothing for club cost. The PenCC Newsletter is emailed to members monthly. We also have a SoCal Cup points incentive budget for licensed USAC racers who earn SoCal Cup points for the club. For 2012 the amount was $5 per point.

Club meetings are held at local businesses, restaurants or board member’s homes. General meetings are held bi-monthly. Visit peninsulacc.com for the current meeting date & location. Download a club application form here.

    So Far So Good

It’s only four days into my renewed efforts to get fit. I managed to get past Thanksgiving and still lose weight. Certainly I’m doing better than last year! I’ve been keeping my meals reasonable. By no means have they been perfect. However, I’ve been eating less and eating better. I still have dessert, but a smaller […]
